# Xi Arrives in Bishkek, Says China-Kyrgyzstan Cooperation Has Entered a 'Golden Period'

President Xi Jinping arrived in Bishkek on Sunday to begin a state visit to Kyrgyzstan and attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organization Summit 2026 being held in the city. Upon arrival, Xi said China-Kyrgyzstan cooperation has entered a golden period of rapid development.

## An airport welcome and written remarks

Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov and his wife welcomed Xi and his wife, Peng Liyuan, at Manas International Airport. In a written speech, Xi extended sincere greetings and best wishes to Japarov and the people of Kyrgyzstan on behalf of the Chinese government and people, noting that the towering Tianshan Mountains have witnessed millennia of friendly exchanges between the two peoples.

## Thirty four years of bilateral ties

Xi said that in the 34 years since the two countries established diplomatic relations, their relationship has weathered a shifting international landscape while maintaining steady, sound development, and has now been elevated to a comprehensive strategic partnership for a new era. He noted that bilateral trade and people to people exchanges have reached new highs in recent years, and that major projects such as the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway have moved forward successfully, with the tangible benefits of mutually beneficial cooperation widely felt by both peoples.

## Looking ahead to the summit

Xi said that during the visit he will hold in depth talks with Japarov on bilateral relations, cooperation across various fields, and international and regional issues of shared concern, and will work together with him to draw up a new blueprint for a China-Kyrgyzstan community with a shared future. He added that he looks forward to attending the SCO summit in Bishkek, where he hopes to join other parties in reviewing the organization's 25 years of development, discussing cooperation plans, and helping shape its future direction.
